Neue Meister concert V: Modern Classical Music

The bell has rung for the fifth round. In the Neue Meister concert in the DRIVE. Volkswagen Group Forum venue on July 13, 2017, some of the most important representatives of the current music trends are appearing on stage together with the Deutsches Kammerorchester Berlin. Pianist and sound magician HAUSCHKA will be presenting his new work “Materials”, a commissioned composition for Folkwang Kammerorchester Essen premiered at Zeche Zollverein Essen on January 20, 2017. Inspired by the location of its premiere – formerly the largest hard-coal mine in the world and Europe’s biggest central coking plant – the work is themed around steel: its colours, its physical states, its sounds. Composer Christian Jost offers his latest string quartet “Ghost Song” in an orchestral arrangement made specially for this concert; he is matched by Johannes Motschmann, who together with “classical band” SPARK presents the album “Facets Of Infinity”, out a week earlier on NEUE MEISTER. Classical punk Kai Schumacher blurs the boundaries between classical avant-garde and pop culture in his concerts without getting stuck in worn crossover grooves, and he will be delivering excerpts from his new programme “Beauty in Simplicity”. Damian Marhulets builds narrative sound collages in the performance of his current album “Ecartelé”; joined by pianist Marina Baranova, he will be launching this work on the concert platform in orchestral form for the first time. And New York composer Caroline Shaw, who has already collaborated with Kanye West, will contribute to the piece “Entr’acte”. She was awarded the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for Music, and she is one of the few women – and at the same time the youngest winner ever – to receive this prize.
